Chemical energy storage mainly refers to the use of hydrogen or synthetic natural gas as a carrier for secondary energy.
Utilizing abandoned wind power to produce hydrogen, water is electrolyzed to decompose into hydrogen and oxygen, thereby obtaining hydrogen. In the future, hydrogen can be directly used as an energy carrier, and then hydrogen can react with carbon dioxide to form synthetic natural gas (methane), using synthetic natural gas as another secondary energy carrier.
The process of synthesizing hydrogen and carbon dioxide into methane is also known as P2G technology (powertogas). Germany is enthusiastic about promoting this technology and has already put demonstration projects into operation in Germany. Natural gas based cogeneration or cold, heat, and electricity systems have become an important component of distributed power generation and microgrids, playing an important role in intelligent distribution networks. Hydrogen and synthetic natural gas provide sufficient fuel for distributed power generation.
