Thermal energy storage

Time:Aug 18, 2023 Views:661

In a thermal energy storage system, thermal energy is stored in the medium of an insulated container and can be converted back into electrical energy when needed in the future, or directly utilized without being converted back into electrical energy.

There are many different technologies for thermal energy storage, which can be further divided into sensible heat storage and latent heat storage.

In sensible heat storage, the medium used for heat storage can be liquid water, and hot water can be used directly or for room heating. The temperature of hot water varies during operation.

Latent heat storage is achieved through phase change materials (PCMs), which serve as the medium for storing thermal energy.

Due to the large amount of heat stored in thermal energy storage, it will play a certain role in the utilization of renewable energy generation. Molten salt is often used as a phase change material in solar thermal power plants. In addition, there are many other types of thermal storage technologies under development, which have many different functions.
