What is the difference between 18650 batteries and soft pack lithium batteries?

Time:Jun 16, 2023 Views:995

The difference between 18650 lithium batteries and soft pack lithium batteries lies in the inherent differences in the materials used, such as electrolytes, conductive agents, electric formula ratios, and production processes.

The 18650 lithium battery is individually packaged in a steel shell (18 represents a diameter of 18mm, 65 represents a length of 65mm, and 0 represents a cylindrical battery). The structure of the internal cells and barriers is wound, while the outer packaging of the lithium polymer soft pack battery uses aluminum plastic film, and the internal cells and barriers are stacked (layer by layer overlapping).

Another difference between the 18650 lithium battery and the soft packed lithium battery lies in the different electrolyte conditions of the internal data of the battery: the electrolyte inside the lithium polymer soft packed battery is polymer, and some are gel or solid, while the electrolyte inside the 18650 lithium battery is liquid.

The third difference is that in terms of high current discharge motor energy of lithium batteries, soft pack lithium batteries may achieve a higher rate than 18650 lithium batteries, while in terms of strong current discharge function, soft pack lithium batteries have better performance.

In terms of reducing capacity for equivalent discharge, soft pack lithium batteries may be customized according to the space conditions of the product battery compartment, achieving a more lightweight situation.
