Due to the saturation of the frequency curbing the reserve market (FCR) (although the price of 2021 has soared), most of the large -scale energy storage systems (LSS) last year were deployed in large commercial and industrial places.

But the larger battery energy storage system has begun to play a role in other power grid services launched by the German Federal Networks (FNA). One of them is the "innovative auction". It is open to two or more clean energy technology projects. For example, large solar power generation and wind power generation parks that can combine bids with battery energy storage systems usually exceed 1MWh.

In the first three rounds of innovation auctions from September 2020 to August 2021, a total of 62 battery energy storage systems of 250MWH participated in it. However, the battery energy storage system involved in the auction can only use power charging of renewable energy power generation facilities, which will prevent them from curbing the reserve market (FCR), automatic frequency recovery (AFRR) market, or commercial market through participating frequency.

German power grid operators are also launching a large -scale battery energy storage project called "Gridboosters" to temporarily alleviate the bottleneck of the grid and save costs.
