Electrochemical energy storage batteries are becoming an emerging member of the energy storage family due to their advantages of modular assembly and high energy conversion efficiency. Representative energy storage batteries include lithium-ion batteries, sodium sulfur batteries, all vanadium flow batteries, etc. However, during the demonstration and commercial operation of battery energy storage technology, there are also issues with high construction costs of energy storage battery systems and fewer cycles under deep charging and discharging conditions. How to promote the sustainable development of the battery energy storage industry under the existing battery energy storage technology conditions, the following suggestions are proposed:
(1) Synchronized planning and development of energy storage and renewable energy. Due to the unstable and intermittent nature of renewable energy generation, shallow charging and discharging of energy storage batteries can achieve smooth output of renewable energy output, reduce the impact of renewable energy access on the power grid, and greatly increase the amount of renewable energy generation connected to the grid. Shallow charging and discharging can greatly extend the cycle life of energy storage batteries. Therefore, while planning new energy generation and grid transmission lines, corresponding energy storage solutions should be provided to promote the synchronous development of energy storage and renewable energy.
(2) Expand the difference in peak valley electricity prices and time of use electricity prices, and implement energy storage electricity pricing policies. Expand the difference between peak valley electricity prices and time of use electricity prices, achieve reasonable allocation of power resources, and create investment value for energy storage. Implement energy storage electricity pricing policies, and through cost-benefit accounting, form renewable energy grid electricity prices that include energy storage supporting facilities.
(3) Explore new business models for the energy storage industry. The energy storage industry is an emerging industry that cannot be promoted without innovation in business models. It is recommended that relevant government management departments and technology units explore business models or market mechanisms such as clean development mechanisms, financial leasing, and energy contract management based on economic laws to promote the sustainable development of the energy storage industry.
(4) Promote the market-oriented operation of distributed optical storage power plants. Under the policy incentives of the country's strong support for distributed photovoltaic power generation, we should actively promote the research and demonstration operation of rooftop photovoltaic power stations equipped with energy storage systems, tap into the potential market demand of community energy storage systems, sell excess electricity directly to large electricity consumers, rather than selling it to power companies, explore the market-oriented operation mechanism of self use and self use distributed photovoltaic power stations, and achieve the sustainable development of the energy storage industry.
